⏳ So… "Who’s Been in Power, and for How Long?"
Here’s where it gets uncomfortable. Some school board members have been in office for 10, 20, even 35+ years.Yes! you read that right.

🧐 Why Should We Question This?
Let’s be clear: experience matters. But so does relevance, reflection, and representation.
The challenges kids are facing in 2025 are not the same as 1989:
-
Mental health crises
-
Gun safety and lockdown drills
-
Technology gaps and AI in the classroom
-
Disparities in discipline and school suspensions
-
LGBTQ+ student protections
-
Cultural relevance in curriculum

📉 No Term Limits = No Turnover
Wilson County does not have term limits for school board members. That means someone can stay in power for as long as they keep getting re-elected often unchallenged and unnoticed by voters.
This creates a cycle of low accountability, low awareness, and the same policies getting recycled whether they work or not.

🗣️ So What Can We Do?
-
1. Know who represents you. Look up your district and school board rep here.
-
2. Show up to meetings. You don’t have to speak...just listen. Watch how they vote.
-
3. Ask questions. Email your board member. Ask what they’re doing about safety, student equity, or discipline reform.
-
4. Encourage new leadership. If you know someone with vision, passion, and community loveencourage them to run. That person might even be you.
